A short, solo fast packing trip out to the JMT and back.

Camp on night 2. Evolution Valley off of JMT.

Inside my one person tent. Glad I brought the 15F bag instead of the 30F bag. Yeah, you can survive 30F in a 30F bag, but this was nicer. And it all fit in my 20 liter pack!

Beards sure are popular these days. I think they are Ho hum… but kudos to this guy rockin’ some John Muir style.

The flowers are giving their last hurrah.

The trail in upper Goddard Canyon (it eventually disappears in a Meadow)

Looking across Goddard Canyon. Some day, I would like to do a trans-Sierra traverse that starts at Courtright, crosses these mountains, through the Ionian Basin, then over Lamarck Col out to Sabrina Lakes.

I slept on the pass. Normally I would never do that, but the weather looked good and has been great for 4 days. Took the chance and was greeted with a perfect sunrise!

It got to 30F in my tent in Evolution valley – but only 34F on the pass. The pass was warmer?

Shaking ice off my fly.

14 lbs for 4 days! Solo fast pack delight

Hell For Sure Lake in the early morning light.

The holy trinity of finding your way on lost trails – the “i”, cut lumber, and cairns. The Goddard Canyon trail I took yesterday is practically lost. I plan to add it into OPen Street Map because I don’t want it to become totally lost. It is a really nice route up on cliffs and ledges.

I liked the picture of Santa. I always wondered what he does when he’s not at the North Pole.
