Kayaking From Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe

GPS Track for this route.

Sand Harbor is an easy place to start your paddle, and it is visually appealing due to the rocks jutting out of the water in the immediate vicinity.  We paddled around Sand Point, to Chimney Beach, Secret Harbor, and finally Skunk Harbor.  The main difficulty in the summer is finding parking at Sand Harbor.  Not only is there a $12 fee for parking, but the lot is often full in the summer.  It is so popular that there is sometimes a person directing traffic on the highway, and a large backup on the highway in both directions.  Once you make it past this gauntlet, just a few minutes paddling around Sand Point takes you to some peace and quiet.  The rest of the paddle is very relaxed.  There are a number of good rocks for jumping off into the water around Sand Harbor if it is a warm day.
